Hi! Late last night when my hand was cramping and my eyes started playing tricks on me, I wondered why did I agree to color in all these monkeys and make all these pizza boxes? Hmmm, because they're cute and my son some how talked me into it. This is the last week of school for the kids and decided to make something for my son's kindergarten class.
I had all these mini playing cards I had bought from Walmart last Xmas. A couple bucks for 10 so I bought 30 and needed to use just 22 for my son's class. These are super cute and small. But I didn't want to just stick them in a bag. I thought about making playing card cases for all of them but that kind of cutting seemed too tedious. Then I saw All That Scraps pizza box challenge (which these will be entered in) and the tutorial link. I thought I could manage that.
So I made 22 mini mini pizza boxes. These measure 1.75 x 2.25 inches (and .25 inch deep) and I changed them to be rectangular since I didn't want the cards to be shaking around too much in the boxes. My son loves this little monkey from CC Designs Flower Power set. In that set also comes a single flower with a ladybug which is the stamp I wanted to use because it was simple and I thought that it wouldn't involve too much coloring. But look at what he talked me into! I stamped and cut them out with Spellbinders Wonky Rectangles which was a nice fit on the box.
Closer view of the monkeys. I did wonder if the kids would appreciate the coloring and the effort and I came to conclusion that some would and some probably wouldn't but that's the same conclusion when it comes to giving hand made items to adults too. So in the end I don't mind giving something like this to the kids.
The back of the box. I taped the ends of a thin elastic cord around the box to keep the box closed. You can just flip the elastic off the bottom and open the box and then put the elastic back to close. I thought this would be a good place to put all the cards once you opened them.
A picture for size reference. The colors I used for his body too. I think after maybe the 6th monkey my staying in the lines wasn't too great.
Even though these were a lot of work crammed into a couple of days/nights, I love how they came out. When you see all the monkeys together, they are so cute!
I also plan to enter these cuties into Wee Memories Challenge #57 Stamp it (using stamps on your creations).
Thanks for reading! I'm off to figure out some teacher gifts. Sigh, what I had planned doesn't seem like will work out. So disappointed. Story for another day, I suppose.
